Noises and Warning Lights: What Your Car Is Telling You

Your car constantly communicates with you through sounds, vibrations and dashboard warning lights. Learning to listen can save you from bigger repairs.

A lit warning light is not always an emergency, but you should never ignore it. Some are simple reminders, others ask you to stop quickly in a safe place. Check the vehicle manual to learn what each one means.

Signs to watch for

  • A squeal or scraping sound when braking
  • A vibration in the steering wheel at certain speeds
  • An unusual smell or smoke under the hood
  • A car that pulls to one side or is hard to start

Write down what you notice: when the noise appears, at what speed, cold or warm. These details are valuable for our diagnosis and save us time, which means they save you time too.

Regular maintenance remains the best prevention. Following the schedule recommended by the manufacturer and having your vehicle inspected from time to time lets small problems be fixed before they grow. If you have any doubt, come see us: we would rather look for nothing than repair too late.
