Getting Ready for Your First Meeting With a Notary

A first meeting with a notary may seem solemn, but it is mostly a conversation. The better prepared you arrive, the more useful answers we can give you from the first meeting.

Start by thinking about what you want to accomplish: buying or selling a property, organizing your estate, protecting a loved one, setting up or changing a business. Even a vague idea is a good starting point, and we will help you clarify it.

What is useful to bring

  • Valid identification for each person involved
  • Documents related to your file, such as contracts or titles
  • A list of your questions, written in advance
  • The names and contact details of the people involved

Every situation is particular, and rules vary by place and circumstance. That is why we cannot give you a precise answer here: the meeting exists precisely to examine your file carefully.

Feel free to ask every question, even the ones that seem simple. There is no such thing as a bad question when it comes to important decisions. We will take the time to explain each step in clear language. And if you need time to think, you can come back when you are ready.
