Behind the Scenes of Our Year-End Show
When the curtain rises on our year-end show, the audience sees a few minutes of magic. What they don't see are the months of work that came before. Here is a quick tour behind the scenes.
It all begins in the fall, with the choice of music and themes. Each teacher imagines a choreography suited to the age and level of their group. Then we rehearse, start over and adjust. Students learn as much patience as they do steps.
What gets prepared backstage
- Costumes, chosen to be both beautiful and comfortable
- Props and sets, often made by hand
- The running order, so every group gets its moment
- The dress rehearsal, where everyone discovers the real stage
The night before the show, nerves run high, and that is perfectly normal. We always remind students that stage fright is a sign they care about doing well. A good night's sleep, a light meal and a smile work wonders.
On the big day, families only have to enjoy themselves. Applaud loudly, even when a step goes astray: what the dancers will remember is the pride of having stepped onto the stage.
