How Often Should You Groom Your Dog

It is the question we get most often: how often should we come in? The answer varies a lot from one animal to another. Here are the factors that help us determine a good rhythm.

What makes the frequency vary

A poodle and a retriever have completely different needs. The coat, but also your dog's activity and your region, all matter.

  • Continuously growing coat: regular cuts and upkeep, often every few weeks.
  • Short coat: less upkeep, but a bath and brushing do a lot of good.
  • Double coat: brushing is essential, especially during shedding.
  • Lifestyle: a dog who loves mud and long walks needs more care.

Between visits, a few minutes of brushing at home makes a big difference. It prevents tangles, which can become uncomfortable for the animal, and lets you spot a lump, redness or a parasite early.

We always take time to observe your companion and talk about their comfort. If you notice anything unusual on their skin, talk to your veterinarian too. Together we will find the ideal rhythm.
