Choosing Colors Without Second-Guessing

Choosing a color is often the most stressful part of a painting project. Yet a few simple habits help avoid most regrets. These are the ones we share with our clients at every visit.

Look at the room before the color chart

The same shade can look warm in the morning in an east-facing room and much cooler in the evening under a white bulb. Before deciding, notice where natural light comes from and what kind of lighting you use at night.

  • Dark rooms: light, warm shades help open up the space.
  • Very bright rooms: you can afford deeper colors.
  • Small spaces: one color for both walls and trim makes the room feel larger.
  • Floors and furniture: spot their undertones, yellow, pink or gray, and match the paint to them.

Always test on a large sample, at least the size of a sheet of paper, rather than a small chip. Let it dry completely: paint changes slightly as it dries.

Finally, remember that walls take up a lot of room in your daily life. One bold wall adds character without tiring the eye. If you are still unsure, tell us about your project and we will help you decide.
