Choosing Plants That Suit Your Land

A magnificent plant at the nursery can wither in your garden if it does not suit the site. The secret of a successful landscape fits in one sentence: the right plant in the right place.

First criterion: light. Some plants love full sun, others prefer shade or partial shade. Observe your land at different times of the day before choosing.

Criteria to consider

  • Exposure to sun and wind
  • The nature of the soil: sandy, clay or rich
  • Your region's climate and the plant's resistance to cold or drought
  • The time you want to spend on upkeep

Think about the mature size of the plant too. A small shrub full of promise can grow and take over the space planned for it. Give it room to reach its natural shape.

Plants suited to your area, often called native plants, generally need less water and care, and support local insects and birds. It is a beautiful, lasting and practical choice.

If you are unsure, send us photos of your land. We will suggest combinations that bloom in turn, so your garden is pleasant in every season.
