Caring for Leather So It Ages Well
Leather is a living material that develops a patina over time. Well cared for, it gains character. Neglected, it dries out and cracks. The difference comes down to a few regular habits.
A simple routine
- Brush after each wear to remove dust and dirt.
- Nourish the leather with a suitable cream when it looks dry or dull.
- Let shoes rest for a day between wears.
- Use shoe trees to hold the shape and absorb moisture.
If your shoes get wet, let them dry in open air, away from direct heat. Heat makes leather harden and crack. A little newspaper inside helps absorb the water.
